Can You Read My Mind, I've Been Watching You
Can You Read My Mind, I've Been Watching You
Yep! I'm quoting Ethel Cain as usual and the song is still 'Crush' and my preferred version of this song is still 'Crush - Stripped'.
UX and UI
Because I want to be a front-end engineer I was inspired to do some UX/UI work over the weekend. Here is what I've learned.
Design
Design is a problem-solving process which is intentional.
It is focused on planning or making something for a specific use or purpose.
Understanding UI and UX
This helps us to focus our work on the experience of the user.
It also helps us to ensure our products meet the real needs of our users in an intuitive and a pleasant way.
UI or User Interface Design
Focuses on the visual design of the interface.
So it focuses on the interface that the users interact with the product or the system through.
UX or User Experience Design
This focuses on the holistic experience around a product or a service.
It takes into consideration the user, the system, and the context.
There are 5 elements of UX design
Ranging from the most abstract to the most concrete they are:
- Strategy
- Scope
- Structure
- Skeleton
- Surface
While UI design primarily focuses on the surface, UX design encompasses the entire process.
UX vs UI
One of the first cool things this course has taught me is the difference between UX and UI, which is really I cool. I thought I was more interested in UX but it turns out I am more interested in UI. Why? The UX stuff is a bit too similar to my Product background which I want to move on from.
But the UI stuff is more to do with the front-end and I really like that. It is more to do with things like colours and accessibility and making things look pretty - all of which I really love.
Generalist vs Specialist
I will always favour specialising over generalising and engineering is no exception, I hope to be a front-end engineer that is very focused on the UI and this is why I am taking this course. I will come back to it another weekend.
Wireframing
This is amazing!
I wanted to make a note of so much about it that I had to pause so that I could come back to it again with a totally fresh mind.
