Fan The Flame Inside Of Me

Image
Fan The Flame Inside Of Me Quoting Charlotte Gainsbourg as usual. Because my heart is on fire, my heart is on fire. And like the song - "Set Yourself On Fire" - I just want to fuel my passion and set it alight more and more. The more I burn the fire, the brighter it burns. And I love what I do, I love it SO, SO MUCH, I just love it. And it burns brighter every day than it ever did before. AND I LOVE IT. Methods "When the data stored on an object is a function we call that a method." - Codecademy Another great quote on this: "In JavaScript methods are object properties containing a function definition". To call the method of an object , the following syntax is used: objectName.methodName(); The way a method looks inside of an object is this (just to quote the Codecademy example directly): Or rather, there are two way - the old way: const alienShip = {   invade: function () {     console.log( "Hello! We have come to dominate your planet. Instead of Eart

Feel The Stillness Stripped From The Light

Image
Feel The Stillness Stripped From The Light The day the Universe told me that I was meant to be a programmer I discovered the song Bamboo by Elder Island properly for the first time. I ran and danced around Brighton after my conversation with the man who, with 40 years' programming experience, after 2 hours' conversation, said to me "Best of luck with your new career", singing that song and I knew.  I knew that I would be a Software Engineer. I just didn't know how. But I kew that life would bring to me an adventure as exciting as that song though - for life.  That was less than 6 months ago. Bamboo by Elder Island music video. And I wasn't wrong - life is bringing me all of this, and then more. Revising Objects I: Learned what an Object is Learned what key-value pairs are and what properties are. Learned what an object literal is. Learned about accessing, adding or editing properties via dot notation or bracket notation. Learned about navigating complex, nest

Come And Find Me

Image
Come And Find Me Today's blog post is inspired by "Find Me" by Sigma ft. Birdy. If you're ready, heart is open, I'll be waiting, come and find me. If you're searching for forever, I'll be waiting, come and find me... This above song, 'Find Me' by Sigma ft. Birdy, perfectly symbolises how I feel about my life. There was something that I was meant to be doing, and there was something that I was willing to do, and I was ready and waiting for it to come and find me. But find me it did. It came and it found me. Logical Operators It has been brought to my attention a few times by my boss, and I have realised a few times for myself, that I am not as comfortable with things like logical operators as I should be.  So I have been revising them a little bit, mainly using my coding book - "Learn To Code With JavaScript", by Darren Jones. I have mainly been revising === ,  !== , > , < , <= , >= , && , and || . Should be pretty eas

Been Burning All My Life, So Come And Set My House Alight

Image
Been Burning All My Life, So Come And Set My House Alight To quote Charlotte Gainsbourg, as usual: "Yeah, come and stand, and see the sights, and warm your hands, and fan the flame inside of me, Been burning all my life, so come and set my house alight, yeah come and set my spirit free".  - Set Yourself On Fire I am on fire. I am on fire.  I am always on fire, as usual, as always. I knew all my life that I was meant to be doing something. I knew my whole life that I was meant to be doing something. I knew it always, always, always. Now the thing is just that I have found it now. And I am doing it. I am doing it. I am doing it. I am doing it. Now onto the loops for...of loops and for...in loops So my wonderful colleague Kareem, a software engineer at work, helped me out with for...of and for...in loops - hooray! for...of loops are just like for loops you can iterate through any iterable including a string, array, set, and other stuff. Except that you can only iterate throu

I Am Inexhaustible

Image
I Am Inexhaustible I Am Inexhaustible  I am inexhaustible. My passion is inexhaustible. My enthusiasm is inexhaustible. What I have to offer to the world is inexhaustible. My love is inexhaustible. My kindness is inexhaustible. My caring is inexhaustible. My passion is inexhaustible. My love for what I do is inexhaustible. My happiness at being a Software Engineer is inexhaustible. My love for my job is inexhaustible. My excitement is inexhaustible. My enthusiasm is inexhaustible. My love is inexhaustible. My talent is inexhaustible. My power is inexhaustible. My power is inexhaustible. My power is inexhaustible. My gratitude to the universe, for allowing me to be on this path and to follow my destiny, is inexhaustible. And who I am is who you are, and it is all the same, really. My passion is inexhaustible. My enthusiasm is inexhaustible. My love is inexhaustible. My love for what I do is inexhaustible. We are all inexhaustible. You and I are inexhaustible. We are inexhaustible.  Now

Question It All

Image
Question It All A beautiful song by Lucy Rose... Okay, so I'm sorry. After spotlighting this song yesterday at the end of the post, I quite simply have to name my blog post after this. I'm OBSESSED with this song.  It's so beautiful - it's like nothing else that I have ever heard before.  It reminds me of the hills and the forests near my house in Luxembourg, like I said last night, and how I walked on them, dreaming, dreaming - dreaming, and knowing that I was following my destiny. Of my commitment to be a software engineer. Of the path that slowly, slowly emerged to me, somehow, as I was walking through those hills. Out of everything, everything in the world that I could be - I chose this.  Except that I didn't choose this. It chose me. And I'm so happy and grateful forever that it did. Thank you. Album Artwork for Question It All by Lucy Rose. Revising Nested Loops I made some mistakes with Nested Loops last night but it turns out they weren't so bad. Her

The Tunnel

Image
The Tunnel OH MY GOD. 'The Tunnel' is a song by French For Rabbits and I am so in love with it, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god. There were SO MANY CONTENDERS for today's blog post title but at a few minutes before EOD I heard this one and just KNEW. "There's a light at the end of the tunnel, I know". *** "There's a light at the end Of the tunnel we're in And it glows all the night From a mile I can see it Do you see it too, where you are? It's the same bright stars". *** "Dream something, Even if you don't believe in it! Dream something,  Even if you cannot see it!". I actually think that I might cry.  I have never SEEN such beautiful song lyrics!  It reminds me of 2 things: - One of my favourite quotes of all time: "There is no light at the end of the tunnel. You are the light".  - And a story from one of my favourite Buddhist Monks, Ajahn Brahm - where he says the suffering and the overcoming of it allows us to

Caution Repetitive

Image
Caution Repetitive OMG! Omg, omg, omg. NOW things have gotten exciting. 'Caution Repetitive' by Princess Chelsea is probably one of my favourite songs of all time in the world It is probably the most healing, empowering song I know. There is all of this deep, deep power and deep, deep bitterness contained within it. I love it so much - it is amaaaaaaaazing - oh my godddd. It was my favourite song back when I was studying in Liverpool, and it helped me to get through a LOT of things. So how perfect that it should come again - and help me again - to the rescue, when I am struggling with loops! Because... loops are all about REPETITIONS! Loops are about... REPEATS!  And in the song... the themes repeat, the melodies repeat, the lyrics repeat.. and yet they don't. They play on each other. They iterate... they loop.  So, with renewed hope now, let me look at loops... AGAIN. Loops Direct from Codecademy: "A loop is a programming tool that repeats a set of instructions until

An Apple And A Berry Plant Comes With A House

Image
An Apple And A Berry Plant Comes With A House 'Triangle Walks' by Fever Ray is such a magical, fairy-tale song, and it has such a vibe.  I listen to it once and I am immediately transported somewhere else, taken away.  Again, similar to My Silver Lining I love the sort of anger and the rage that she seems to sing with. There is definitely some internal fire going on in there! "On the grass/ Who is that/ To come by my house?". 100% fairy-tale vibes there. With some kind of tribal drums and beats going on.  One More Amazing Quote From My Boss Today "Tell me how you spend your time, and I'll tell you who you are". If I spend all my time thinking about Engineering... does that make me an Engineer? What about if I spend all my time coding? And what about if I spend all my time trying to spread love? array.splice() Although it was important for me not to get too involved with diving deep into the array methods, this one has come up in the current project I'

Now We're Nowhere In Her Thoughts, As She Dives Beneath The Waves

Image
Now We're Nowhere In Her Thoughts, As She Dives Beneath The Waves This is another one of my favourite quotes from "Girl and the Sea" by the Presets. It represents everything I love in life... Moving on... Being the winner... Not thinking about people who have put you down, because, well, "now we're nowhere in her thoughts, as she dives beneath the waves".  Diving beneath the waves of course being the perfect metaphor for doing what you love... Going to do a second consecutive Masters degree even though people told me I couldn't do it. Deciding to become a software engineer even though that wasn't the box that I fit into in so many people's minds. And reserving the right to talk about software engineering as much as I want to, and to be as passionate about it as I like, in spite of only having come across it at the age of 28, because only I know how much I really love it, and how much it really means to me. ✨🎇🎇💖 Some more beautiful art from the
