What it means to me to focus
What it means to me to focus
What does it mean to be focused? Okay so firstly I realise the irony of writing this during working hours when I could be doing actual things but it needs to be done. As always I'll make up the time anyway.
This is the process of working for me anyway and this just needs to be done.
One of the world's biggest laser beams. |
What does it mean to be focused?
I have a lot to be focused on.
I have a lot going on at the moment. I have a lot of things to be focused on.
So what does it mean for me?
So firstly it means withdrawing, kind of. I have a lot of incredible people who I am so incredibly lucky to work with.
I have seniors who give me so much of their time.
But that means I have to give a lot in return.
I have to prioritise these meetings, these relationships - but I have to prioritise both preparing for these meetings and making sure I have done any work that has been assigned to me before these meetings.
Doing Homeworks
I love it when my mentors set me "homeworks". I love having clear and focused and targeted things to work on. It helps me so much.
It helps me so so so much. 😍
So one thing I've started doing
Is I've started keeping a Notion page of all the tasks that have been set for me on any given day.
This should really help with things - thanks.
Focusing on long term goals
My Lead Engineer has said something really wonderful to me.
He's said to me that we really need to set some goals - monthly, 3 monthly, 6 monthly, yearly and so on...
The Engineering Framework
I would really recommend this inside of any organisation but I really love that he has said this to me:
- To look at the framework for both my level and the framework for the level above mine
- To identify on both of these frameworks the following:
- What I AM GOOD AT
- What I NEED TO BE BETTER AT
- What I WOULD LIKE TO IMPROVE/LEARN
And then we will identify some things and we will create some more goals based off of this info.
I will do this privately in a notion document - partly because I want to keep it to myself and partly because I keep company stuff private.
But if you work with me and would like to chat then I am always open... provided it is helping me to focus on my goals.
Focusing inside of working hours
I need to stay focused. This doesn't mean working non stop. I have to take breaks - for chats, for brief, short walks within reason, and for lunches of course.
It means PRIORITISING.
It means making a list of goals everyday.
It means having at the forefront of my mind what I am meant to be doing.
And it means reminding myself of those things again and again.
