Where Water Meets Electricity: The Magic of My Career

Where Water Meets Electricity: The Magic of My Career

⚡️ ⚡️ ⚡️

It happened again.

While I was playing Taylor Swift on the piano.

And my favourite part two - the bit at the end of the song.

The bit she only does in the live version - which I will never again be able to sing the song without. The song of course being “seven.”

I saw the magic hydroelectric dam I visited in the mountains when I was 15 (twice - once at nearly 15 and once at nearly 16 - it is an autistic thing to want to be very precise about numbers and I will defend my right to do so). I saw deep inside of the hydroelectric dam or what I might imagine inside of a hydroelectric dam to be like. And then I saw all of the mountains in the south of France that I love so much.

But if someone wanted to really give their all to water and to energy tech then what would be the best thing to do?

If someone really wanted to give their all to water and renewable energy tech then what would they need to do?

If like me you felt, no, KNEW, your life purpose was to give your all to water and energy as a software engineer, KNEW that your life purpose was to support water and renewable energy tech as a software engineer, then what would you do, what would be the best thing for you to do?

Learn Python

By far the best thing for someone in my position to do would be to learn more Python. I WILL SCREAM IT FROM THE ROOFTOPS. By far the best thing for someone to do in my position would be to learn more Python. And get better at it. And become a master of it. By far the best thing for me to do is to learn more Python and more Django and become a master of it. I will scram it from the rooftops.

PYTHON IS THE LANGUAGE OF THE FUTURE OF RENEWABLE ENERGY. Python is the language of the future of renewable energy.

So what is my plan for learning more Python?🐍

I feel like I keep on saying this again and again. But I am just trying to balance everything. I am struggling to balance everything. I am taking the codecademy intermediate Python course.

So for it I need to:
  • Finish the Python decorators video
  • This is going to take at least two chunks
  • I have about 14 minutes late
  • 7-8 minutes is usually my absolute limit for concentrating on a video
  • Even then it takes effort
  • This is gonna mean another two blog posts or sections of blog posts at least
  • Because I can only watch a video with a blog post
My mentor tells me I am focused. This means a lot to me.

Does writing out my goals again and again count as being focused? I hope so.

Because this is the only way I can succeed. This is the only thing that works for me.

Further Intermediate Python 🐍 Codecademy Course Goals

  • To move on with the OOP section of my course
  • To do the polymorphism section of my OOP course, which is just waiting for me
  • To revise multiple levels of inheritance is when you inherit from a grandparent
  • Why is this so hard arrrgh
  • I could just let it go but I don’t want to
  • To revise when you inherit from two classes at once
  • Again I probably don’t need to but I want to
  • I have the rest of the lesson, a test, a project and maybe an article
  • Just to finish OOP. I have always found OOP challenging. I always found FP easier. But as the future is Python I had better get learning my OOP. And get comfortable with it very quickly. You know what’s next:
  • Unit testing
  • Iterators and generators
  • Resource management
  • Something else I swear
I mostly taught myself generators from codewars but maybe there is more.

And speaking of which there is always more codewars to do.

Practising is so important. And when I finish my 3 main courses it would be good to keep on going with the Python codewars problems.

And by the way when I get back to work my goals are:

To finish my ORM lesson; to write a blog post or two on it to really consolidate those lessons; apply it to my current ticket; and finish that or at least step 3 of 4 of just the first part which I am on right now - and then there’s tests.

A beautiful woman with blonde hair and blue eyes wearing a black vest and a white shirt smiles at the cameras and takes a selfie at a bus stop surrounded by lush greenery. Her eyes are glittering. She is filled with the joy of having just been to visit the wind farms
Me after I hiked to see the wind farms in the little village where I was born the other day.

And I know I have to keep on giving.

I keep on giving to the blog posts. I have to keep on giving to the courses and the codewars though. Because there’s still a lot more to give.

And it’s not over. There is still a lot more to give.

I give it my all every day in my job too.

And how do I balance it every day so I can give enough to my Python courses to learn them but also have the energy to give my all in my day job? And actually be an actual human being? A girl can dream…

Being a human being has been hard lately.

I want to find a work life balance and yet I also love what I do so much and so I struggle to find a balance.

Because I work so hard. But I love what I do and this is my dream. Today I was admiring one of my favourite singers. She is so cool. I have grown up with her over the last decade.

She seems so perfect. But today I realised she is not me.

And I would rather be me and have my passion and my dream and my goal - thank you. I would rather be me.

Thank you.
