I pour myself out of myself in a neverending gesture of giving

Every day I learn so much I want to write more.

Every day working as a software engineer is so rewarding and such a fulfilling experience that I can’t help but want to consolidate and learn more more more.

I want to take out every single lesson that I got from the previous day. I especially want to do it when I see the wind farms.

Because I love the wind farms so so much.

And everything I do, I do it for the wind farms.

A purple sky and the Brighton i360 taken at night at the seafront in hove with loads of golden lights and a wide pavement and well lit buildings at the side
Hove seafront taken earlier this year

The wind farms that you can see so perfectly from the spot above at night. And in the day.

So what have I learned today? I have learned the importance of having a team.

My best ideas come up when I am working with a team and sitting with them in a meeting. I have learned the importance of documentation to a team. When I offered to lead on documentation in the team they seemed really happy. I don’t understand why. I love writing technical documentation. Why doesn’t everyone else love writing it too!!!

I learned the importance of listening and paying attention in standups and meetings. Unfortunately in today’s standup I zoned out when my two seniors were talking and luckily I must have the most incredible manager in the world and he must know me really well because he called back my attention almost immediately. It was super embarrassing but we have such a loving and accepting culture in my team that I know there was no guilt there there was just needing to come back to the moment. So I must absolutely focus on standup even when I am not talking.

How else will I learn what it is that the rest of the team are doing? And my team is SMALL. But they are working on very technically advanced stuff. And I need to learn from what they are doing. I am learning from the architecture and their diagrams are really helping me.

And that is why I am so keen to organise the documentation. Because the diagrams are so helpful to me as well. And apart from that I learned loads from my manager on VENV’s. But more than anything else I can’t help feeling I got loads out of my team’s standup today.

What else did I get? I saw how much it helped me to prepare my own notes.

I was so much more prepared and I did so much better. I realised that I understood my own coding problem SO SO SO MUCH BETTER than I thought I did. And I realised that I understand all the dots - and that it all clicks together - but only when I do the proper preparation.
