JUST DO WHAT FEELS RIGHT TO MAKE THINGS BETTER BECAUSE YOU LOVE IT

Working tonight has taken discipline I didn't know I had. And I did two MSc's in two years and taught myself to code and blah blah blah.

After a nice relaxing dance (yep I'm dancing, I've started dancing again, and it's the BEST) and a dinner which I regretted (I couldn't be bothered to cook), I CANNOT be bothered to think about problem-solving. BUT THEY ARE YET TO INVENT SOMETHING THAT COULD TAKE ME OUT. So here I am.

Listening to the "Popcorn" song - the original EDM song - and I LOVE EDM - I like the version by the Megabyte Orchestra. Every version is different and there's a beautiful acoustic version here.

Listening back to my podcast with Dave

Have an interest in how it works.

Have an interest in how it works and why it's been done the way it's been done.

MAYBE THINGS ARE NOT QUITE RIGHT. It could've been designed better. It could've been designed better. It could've been done better. It could've been put together better. So then you know where to focus your attentions.

Caring More About What The Other Engineer Has Done

Why is that like that? Why is it like that? Is it like that by accident? Is it by design? Did someone make it like that?

What was going through their mind? Why did they do that?

WHY IS THIS THING LIKE THIS? YOU HAVE TO STOP BEING AFRAID TO CHANGE THE EXISTING CODE.

You have to stop being afraid of the existing code.

Using a new tool

How can I learn enough about a new tool just to start to build something with it?

Often with a new tool or framework, there is so much to learn.

With every new tool and framework, there is so much to learn.

TOO much, in fact. You could learn so much about every new tool that exists.

But usually you don't need it - you just have something specific that you need to learn - for your piece of work. So learn that. Focus on that. Only learn what you need to do the piece of work. You might get to learn more later but for now just stick to that and focus on that. You're only interested in one or two little parts of it but you can ignore the rest for now. HONE IN ON THOSE ONE OR TWO LITTLE BITS.

You might want to come back to the rest of it later but that is enough for now.

MY NAME IS GIOVANNI GIORGIO BUT - EVERYBODY CALLS ME - GIORGIO

"Why don't I use the synthesiser - which IS the sound of the future?"

"BUT - I DIDN'T REALISE HOW MUCH THE IMPACT WOULD BE."

BY LOOKING AT IT WITH CURIOSITY YOU GET A LOT MORE SATISFACTION OUT OF IT.
