We Had A Place In That Garden
We Had A Place In That Garden
This is a story about what it means to care.
A story about what it means to care so much that you'll do anything and you don't even notice the obstacles.
How it feels to care so much that you will work non-stop for a whole year just to stay in your dream job.
What it means to care so much you'll complete three degrees while having seizures every day just because there is an internal force pushing you, even though you don't know what it means.
How I come out about my neurodiversity time and time again
Firstly because I am super proud. Secondly because I don't care.
This is what a face of bravery and absolute determination looks like |
I would rather get what I need than worry about what someone thinks of me
I cannot wait to just go and to write my Christmas cards
I had a breakthrough yesterday. We realised I was doing too much.
I luckily I have finished all of my Python courses today. No more courses. No more cognitive load. Just work and problem solving and debugging trainings.
We had a place in that garden
- Listen back to my 5 problem solving calls
- I will not seek out other problem solving calls
- I will get logging done (note: it's done)
- I will send a plan of how I plan to solve problems to my manager. Before I even tackle a problem I will say - hey - I've solved it - here is the plan.
- I have given permission to my manager to tell me to Google something at any point when I ask him in person and to just Google emoji any messages that ask Googlable questions.
Walked in the sunshine and bathed in the water
My 3 step approach to problem solving skills when I am in the heat of the moment:
1. Calm down - take some time out, take a step back. Breathe, pause, drink tea, meditate. Get outside, take a quick walk. I rarely let myself do that. Calm down first. Just calm down.
2. Use my problem solving skills. Define the problem. Draft up a solution.
3. Write a message to my boss and send it to myself first. Read it over. Pause. Ask myself: can I see the solution here now? Pause and wait please.
Thank you
I NEED TO START DRAWING OUT HOW THE BACKEND WORKS

... WALKED IN THE SUNSHINE AND BATHED IN THE WATER..."
