"Everyone Deserves A Chance To Fly" (UNLIMITED): Why One Ticket At A Time Is Working For Me

I am making no apologies.

I am brilliant, I am strong, I am talented. I work very very hard. I have worked almost non stop in the past year. I deserve everything I get. And I have so much more to prove. Sometimes I get misunderstood or my talents take a little bit longer to prove. But I keep on going anyway. I have so much respect for myself. I am so proud of myself. I keep on going no matter what. I don't know anyone else who keeps on going like I do, I don't know anyone else who is persistent like I am in spite of the great great challenges that I face.

Many of the great challenges I faced to get here have never been mentioned on here.

I know I deserve so much more. I have given everything I can this year. I have given everything I've got. The results are showing and that's all I can do. 

I am brilliant. I am proud of myself. I love myself. I respect myself. I am really proud of who I am. I work really hard. I deliver brilliant results (on Friday I did a full AI ticket in a morning with no comments and no revisions). I know who I am. I am brilliant. I am proud of myself. Thank you. Oh yeah the point of this blog post - well apart from to quote Wicked - is this: one ticket at a time, again.

One ticket at a time and how it works

  • there is stuff going on
  • there are a lot of processes going on at work at the moment
  • there are distractions 
  • meetings distract me
  • so what do I keep on doing? I keep on going with one ticket at a time please thank you
But it's complicated...
  • On Monday:
    • I need to review the comments on one of my PRs - step 3 of my massive ticket
    • I need to fix my knowledge gap on Alembic conflicting heads - but WHY
      • Just did it a bit 
    • I need to rebase everything on to the main branch BUT ONLY AFTER THE LEAD AI ENGINEER OF ANOTHER TEAM IS DONE FIXING SOMETHING
    • I need to start on two new tickets
    • Okay so this is not one ticket at a time HELP
OKAY STEPS:
- REVIEW PR COMMENTS
- SEE IF ALEMBIC IS FIXED
- REBASE AND REDO MIGRATIONS - DELETE FILES, DELETE DB, CREATE DB, BUILD MIGRATIONS, RUN MIGRATIONS, CHECK UPGRADE, CHECK DOWNGRADE, SEE IF IT ALL WORKS
- REBASE EVERYTHING ON TOP OF THAT
- HOPEFULLY SUBMIT AND MERGE
- START ON NEW TICKET
- LOOK AT OTHER NEW TICEKT TOO

And so it is one ticket at a time
- Step 3 of major task - one ticket - review PR comments
- Step 1 of major task - one ticket - migrations and rebase
- MEGA REBASE, 4TH TIME ROUND 
    - rebase 1 onto main, 2 onto 1, 3 onto 2, and 4 onto 3 - REMEMBER TO PUSH EVERY TIME IN BETWEEN AND CHECK THE TESTS PLEASE THANKS 
    - STILL ONLY ONE TICKET - THE MEGA PARENT TICKET
- THEN MOVE ONTO THE NEXT TICKET - STILL ONLY ONE TICKET
- LOOK AT THE SECOND TICKET FOR BRIEF OVERVIEW - STILL ONLY ONE TICKET
- DO THE FIRST TICKET - ONLY ONE TICKET AT A TIME
- DO THE SECOND TICKET - STILL ONLY ONE TICKET AT AT TIME
- DO WHATEVER COMES NEXT - ONLY EVER ONE TICKET AT A TIME

I am only ever doing one ticket at a time no matter what, whatever comes up, thank you

Where To Hide A Star I haven’t read this book but I just saw this title of a forthcoming children’s book on the train and so I wanted to write a blog post based off of this as well. The last six months have been… rewarding and fulfilling. I have managed to make all of my dreams come true and to defy expectations,  Sometimes the best place to hide is in plain sight and if you reread all of my blogs over the last six months (all 200 of them) you would know exactly what I’m struggling at work and what was going on. In the Water, I find Fire Who am I without renewable energy? I had to ask myself this question last year when my company laid off half its employees.  I didn’t know who I was anymore. Not without renewable energy. But I did everything I could to stay in it. The time in between jobs allowed me to experiment. Travel around the UK a bit. Reconnect with old hobbies. Rediscover my femininity a bit - be someone who wasn’t always working. But I fought to stay in renewable energy. A part of myself has been telling myself that I am in renewable energy still and that’s great because I am. But I am mostly in water. And that was hard for me to accept that. Because I love renewable energy so so much. And I couldn’t imagine my life without it. But now I can.
