Poland and its Adventures

Poland and its Adventures

I am half Polish and I haven't been to Poland in 7 years and something is very very wrong. Every time I try and go to Poland something goes wrong. I booked flights last year, I lost my job and had to stay in the country. I booked flights this year, the event got cancelled and with it my place to stay. I still have those flights though.

I mean I could go. But what would I even do there and where would I even stay... I suppose I could book a hotel or youth hostel I'll talk to my family about it... but it would be weird to go to Poland and not visit my family (who will be away doing something else at that time). When I go back to Poland I feel like a part of me that I didn't even know was missing come back. I spent so much time in Poland as a kid and had so many things there - summer camps, internships.

I had my first kiss in Poland (awww). I had so many emotions. Climbed so many walls (literally - I did wall climbing). Surfed so many waves (I was into windsurfing). Violated so many health and safety rules because it wasn't a thing back then - ran around in forests at night, had to have my hand held as we climbed down a mountain at night in the dark (well I was only 12), went surfing holding on to a rope at the back of a motorboat on a series of lakes at sunset, windsurfed so far off course that I had to be rescued by some rowers

Tried to camp on a beach in a storm - until the storm got so bad that even the military guy running the group decided it was too much.

I slid down zip wires from high trees

I climbed on to the roof garden of the university library - so many times. I saw my sisters flat and drank fancy cocktails at her house. I discovered shopping malls.

I was harassed on trams and saved by a man all in white. I bought orange sprayed doc martens and a black jacket with both blue and pink neon zips. I bought so many bandanas and bright pink tops. I had the coolest clothes at school nobody else wore. I went to see Lucy and I bought DIY craft kits and I made a birthday present for my sister and it was so messy I had to make it in the shower while wearing a swimsuit. She loves and she still has it now. I walked through parks

I travelled with my then boyfriend to the North and we went on a boat and we drank vodka with gold in it and we saw a deer from the train

Or maybe that was when we went south.

What haven't I done? I've been to the coolest swimming pools and ran away from charging cattle in a Field. I've done some 6 escape rooms

And including one that violated every health and safety standard in the world - we were literally tied up and handcuffed and only a few of us could release ourselves to release the others.

I've climbed up waterfalls

I've taken charlifts up mountains

I've been on two skiing holidays

I've learned to swim in a lake after being unable to learn to swim in a pool. I've ran through the forest in the rain

I've scuba dived in a swimming pool and seen more history than I would care to talk about or tell about in this blog (it deserves more time and honour) and met both celebrities and old school friends alike in the theatre at random unexpected intervals

All this because I have the pleasure and privilege of being Polish

Thank you, God, thank you
